Exceptional raw materials // DIL SAAZII shawls are woven entirely from the under hairs of the changthangi goat, known to be the finest of cashmere fibres in the world.
1/ Scarcity The scarcity begins with the goat being a rare breed; primarily bred by nomadic tribes living as high as 4500m in Ladakh, India. It is amplified by the brief window of access to these fibres (springtime when the goats naturally shed) and the labour-intensive process of combing out only the underhairs (unlike quick shearing processes). As such, it takes a goat 3 years to produce enough fibre for one shawl.
2/ Gradient Our fibres are ultra-fine at 12-14.5 microns (other cashmere can be upto 21 microns; merino wool is up to 24 microns).
3/Unique Properties Given the changthangi goat withstands dramatic shifts in temperature from -40°C to +40°C, the pashmina fibres are not only very warm but their moisture wicking properties also allow your shawl to be breathable and comfortable in warmer temperatures.
